What is a community foundation?
A community foundation is a non-profit organization that raises and manages funds for the benefit of a particular community or canton.
It normally focuses on identifying and addressing the needs and challenges of the communities by means of programs, projects, and grants. In addition, it works closely with local organizations, community groups and leaders to understand the needs of the communities. For this, it establishes funds that may be focused on specific issues such as education, health, art, culture, environment, tourism, or poverty in order to improve the quality of life of the communities and persons around them.
